How to use salary-tax pages correctly

Salary-tax pages are estimates for planning. They are not a substitute for Form 16, payslips, AIS, TIS, or Form 26AS. Use them to understand the direction of tax under new and old regime, then verify the final calculation using official records and filing utility output.

The most important input is not only annual salary. Bonus, variable pay, previous-employer income, employer PF, professional tax, HRA, rent proof, deductions, and special-rate income can change the result. If your salary is close to a rebate or surcharge threshold, verify carefully before making financial decisions.

Inputs that change salary tax materially

Annual salary is only the starting point. HRA, city category, rent paid, standard deduction, professional tax, employer PF, eligible 80C/80D/NPS deductions, home-loan interest, bonus, previous-employer income, and other income can materially change the result. If you are close to a threshold, even bank interest or variable pay may change the final payable tax.

The safest workflow is to calculate tax with conservative assumptions first, then add deductions only when proof is available. For final filing, use Form 16, AIS/TIS, Form 26AS, and official return utilities. RupeeCalc helps you understand the direction and identify what to verify.

When to use salary-specific pages

Open a salary-specific page when you want a quick explanation for a common salary level such as ₹8 lakh, ₹10 lakh, ₹12 lakh, ₹15 lakh, or ₹20 lakh. Use the full calculator when your salary includes unusual items such as large bonus, multiple employers, high rent, home-loan interest, or equity compensation.
